Dear Lady Mayoress,
As a recent competitor in the EFSA European Sea Angling Championship in Dalvik, I wish to take this opportunity to thank you and all the residents of Dalvik, for a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable five days fishing. I know how much work went into making the week such a success, I want you to know that your welcome, the hospitality, tolerance and warmth we received from the residents of Dalvik, was very much appreciated. It was a great event.
This was my first time at a European Sea Angling Championship and I find it difficult to imagine a better location for sea angling. I found the fishing to be absolutely superb, the boats and organisation was excellent and the hospitality, warmth and friendship afforded us by everyone in Dalvik, was superb. Even the weather was kind to us, although the coldness of the wind on the last two days, had to be experienced to be believed!
The scenery around Dalvik was outstanding, if the fish weren't biting, it was a pleasure just to soak up the beautiful views. The scenery of Iceland is very similar to where I live in Scotland, with many snow covered mountains, I was so impressed, I fully intend to bring my wife to Iceland in the near future, as I'm sure she would love it. This visit has certainly whetted my appetite for further visits to your beautiful Country.
I took up your 'invitation' to sample the 'hot tubs' and your swimming pool complex, what a magnificent experience, I had opportunity to talk with many families in the pool complex and also the supermarket, their command of the English language is a credit to them , your schools and your Country.
This was also my first visit to Iceland and I was delighted with the warm friendliness shown to us. From the moment we landed at Keflavik Airport, the Icelandic people made us truly welcome, the welcome to Dalvik was absolutely amazing and the people we met throughout the week, were so helpful in every way. I hope that their lives were not too disrupted by our presence and that our celebrations at the end of the week, were not too noisy for the residents. The Gala evening was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all that attended.
I hope that now the dust has settled, you and the residents of Dalvik, have been able to get some well earned rest after all your hard work. I sincerely thank you all for a fantastic week's fishing and for such a well organised competition. I look forward to Iceland hosting a future competition.
Once again, many, many thanks, (takk)
Warm regards,
Eddie Hughes
